8.B. - Page 59
HYDROLOGY AND WATER QUALITY
Less Than
Potentially Significant Less Than
Significant With Significant No Impact Beneficial Information
Impact Mitigation Impact Impact Source(s)
Incorporated
Would the project:
9) Expose people or structures to a 1,2
significant risk of loss,injury, or
death involving flooding,including
flooding as a result of the failure of
a levee or dam?
10)Be subject to inundation by seiche, 1,2
tsunami, or mudflow?
4.9.21 Flooding
While Redwood City is adjacent to the Bay,the potential risk of sea waves or tsunamis impacting the
City is considered low as the City lies appromately 10 miles east of the Pacific Ocean shoreline,
outside the County of San Mateo Tsunami Evacuation Planning Area. The project would not be
subject to inundation by seiche, tsunami, or mudflow. The site is not located within a 100-year flood
hazard zone. The project site is not within an area that could potentially be exposed to inundation
from sea level rise.28 Implementation of the proposed project would not, therefore, result in people
or structures being exposed to significant flood risks. (No Impact)
4.9.2.2 Water Quality
Construction
Implementation of the project would result in the disturbance of appromately 0.71 acres. The
project would not be required to comply with the NPDES General Permit for construction activities
because construction activities would disturb less than one acre of land. Demolition and construction
activities would, however, temporarily increase the amount of debris on-site and grading activities
could increase erosion and sedimentation that could be carried by runoff into natural waterways.
Impact HYD-1: Construction activities could temporarily increase pollutant loads in
stormwater runof£ (Significant Impact)
Mitiation Measures: Per City requirements the following measures, based on RWQCB
recommendations, have been included in the project to reduce potential construction-related water
quality impacts.
MM HYD 1-1: Burlap bags filled with drain rock will be installed around storm drains to
route sediment and other debris away from the drains.
MM HYD 1-2: Earthmoving or other dust-producing activities would be suspended during
periods of high winds.
gSan Francisco Conservation and Development Commission.
