2 Enviroramentl Analysis
The temporaty noise from routine construcrian acrivity, however, would be within the levels
considered normallp acceptable at the residential districts on BrewsteAvenue and at the Kaiser
Permanente facilities. The proposed construction activiry and equipment u-ould comply with the City
noise orcinance and wauld not result in prohibited incxeases in noise leveis in residenrial areas.
Once constructed, noise levels from the US 101 undercrossing and Bair Island pum station would
be within the levels normallp acceptable for the sutrounding areas. The replacement putnps would be
undergtound and would typically operate when submerged in the wet we11,which would dampen the
pump noise. The emergency generator would have a naise enclosure, which would reduce noise
levels to 71 dBr at 50 feet. Noise levels at the adjacent commercial tises would be less than 65 dBA.
The following measures would reduce noise impacts from project-related construction activities and
the emergency generator:
Mitigation Measure NOi 1: Construction Scheduling .
The Contractor shall ensure that noise-generating construcrion activity is limited to between
the hours of 7:3Q AIZ and 4:00 PM,Monday through Friday, and noise levels generated by
construcrion are pxohibited on Satutdays, 5undays and holidays.
Mitigation Measure NQI 2: Construction Ecuiprnent Mu£fers and Maintenance
The Contractor shall equip all internal combuston engine-driven equipment with intake and
exhaust mufflers that are in good condition and designed for the equipment.
Mitigation Measuse NOI 3: Quiet Equipment Selection
The Contractor shall use quiet constreicrion ecuipment, particularly air campressoxs, wherever
possible.
Mitigation Measu=e NOI 4:Notication of Pile Driving
The Contractor shall provide advanced written notification of the schedule for project pile
driving acrivities to homes and iusinesses on the east side of US 101 within 200 feet of the
replacement pump statian site.
Mitigation Measute NOI 5:Noise Disturbance Caordinator
The City shall designate a "noise disturbance coordinator" who would be responsible far
responding to any locacomplaints abaut construcrion noise. The distE.rbance coordinatar
would detennine the cause of the noise complaint (e.g., starting too early, bad muffler, etc.)
and institute reasonabJ.e measures waxranted to correct the problem. The telephone number
for the disturbance coordinator shall be posted in a conspicuous location at the construcrion
site.
Mitigation Measure NOI 6: Enclasure
The Contractor shall select an avaiable sound attenation enclosure for the emergency
generatot that wod reduce noise leveZs ta 71 dBA at 50 feet.
.'- G US 90 Pede.rtzan UndercrossisagarrdBair
I.rland Road StorrrDrain Pump Station Project
