7.2.B. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
November 18, 2013
SUBJECT
Final Acceptance - Sanitary Sewer Pump Station 10 Improvements Project
RECOMMENDATION
Accept, by motion, the Sanitary Sewer Pump Station 10 Improvements Project and
authorize the release of retention according to city procedures.
BACKGROUND
On December 17, 2012, Council awarded the construction contract for the Sanitary
Sewer Pump Station 10 Improvements Project to Block a Construction, Inc. of Fremont,
CA for their responsive and responsible low bid of $339,500. The improvements
included removing a portion of the existing motor control cabinet (MCC) to allow for
installation of two (2) variable frequency drives and remote telemetry unit (RTU). Other
miscellaneous items included installation of two (2) level transducers with level
indicators, conduits, temporary bypass pumping units, back up floats and painting of
existing MCC and generator enclosures.
Construction started in April 2013 and was substantially completed in end of September
2013. Final walkthrough was conducted with PWS staff on October 2, 2013 and project
achieved final completion on October 15, 2013.
ANALYSIS
The contractor was awarded for a base bid of $339,500. The project was successfully
completed in accordance with the plans and specifications. Change orders were issued
totaling $3,870.51 . The final contract amount is $343,370.51 which is 1 .1 °k more than
the initially awarded contract amount. Change orders resulted from additional work
required to relocate RTU from exterior to inside MCC unit and painting of existing
generator enclosure.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project and/or authorize the release of retention
which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and the public
contracting code.
FISCALIMPACT
Sufficient funding for this construction agreement was previously approved as Sewer
Fund Capital Projects -- Pump Station No. 101mprovements Project.
