PPS REVISIONS 07.19.2013
We are seeking fuRher clarification regarding Redwood City's green building ordinance and the ability to model PPS REVisioNS 07.31.2013
'a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) mechanical system in order to meet the minimum requirements for showing
energy savings.
The Redwood City Green Building Checklist allows for LEED or Build It Green to be used to meet compiiance ' ___ ___
for this ordinance. LEED allows for VRF systems to be modeled using EnergyPro guidelines, whereas the
CEC does not allow the ability to model these systems under the 2008 Title 24 paR 6 requirements. Minimum
Title 24 part 6 compliance can be shown modeling the VRF system as the default split DX heat pump (per CEC
requirements). We request that in order to show the energy savings associated with a VRF system as
designed, and as is allowed for LEED and PG&E's Savings By Design programs, that the PERF-1 C be
accepted showing 21.6% better than standard performance in which the VRF system is modeled per
EnergyPro guidelines.
Confirmation that this methodology is acceptable for submittal on this project is requested at this time so that
permit submittal and plan check will go smoothly.
