4.2.B. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Cit Mana er <br /> December 9, 2013 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance - 2012-2013 Slurry Seal Project <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, accept the 2012-2013 Slurry Seal Project, and authorize the release of the <br /> retention according to city procedures. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The 2012-2013 Slurry Seal Project is part of the city's Roadway Management Program <br /> designed to address on-going pavement repair and replacement. On May 20, 2013, <br /> Council awarded the construction contract for the 2012-2013 Slurry Seal Project to <br /> American Asphalt of Hayward. The project was awarded for a base bid of $1,219,153. <br /> Construction began in June, 2013 and concluded in October, 2013. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> The project was successfully completed in accordance with the specifications. Two <br /> change orders with a combined deduction of $10,835.55 were issued. The final <br /> contract amount is $1,208,317.45, which is approximately 0.88% less than the contract <br /> amount initially awarded. The change orders resulted from quantity adjustments and <br /> payment of Caltrain/JPB permit fees. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not to accept the project or authorize the release of retention which <br /> would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and public <br /> contracting code. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Sufficient funding for the work of this project was previously approved and appropriated <br /> as Transportation Fund- Street Pavement Management Programs. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br /> Acceptance of this project work is not a discretionary action and thus not a project <br /> subject to the California Environmental Quality Act. <br />
