Council Member Leipzig noted that recently CalTrans had cleaned-up a portion of the <br /> Woodside Road overpass from Middlefield to Union Cemetery, and said it was a long time <br /> coming. He asked that staff check into CalTrans landscaping plans for this and other areas <br /> in the City, and said he hoped CalTrans didn't plan to leave sprinkler heads sticking up out <br /> of the dirt. He said that if CalTrans had no further plans, he would again ask that the City <br /> ')ust go and do it." He asked for a report on this matter. <br /> MEMO 7/14/98 <br /> B. In response to Council Member Leipzig's questions regarding the CitylCouncillSchool <br /> Committee's agreement for gymnasiums and playing fields and deadline for federal <br /> funding, Vice Mayor Ruskin, member of the City's team to that committee, reported that <br /> Supervisor Gordon had presented a concept proposal to the City before he had left on <br /> vacation. Vice Mayor Ruskin said that the Committee had met this day and reviewed and <br /> approved the agreement in concept, and planned to bring it to the Council for approval at <br /> the next Council Meeting. He said Supervisors Gordon and Barrales and County Manager <br /> Maltbie had worked on the concept proposal, and that he and Council Member Hartnett <br /> planned to meet with Supervisor Gordon when he returned this Wednesday. Vice Mayor <br /> Ruskin said that no one on the County side had made mention of time running out to apply <br /> for federal funds. <br /> Mayor Howard reported that she had talked to Dave Stuart, also a member of the <br /> - City/County/School Committee, who had concurred on the proposed concept and timelines. <br /> Vice Mayor Ruskin said the proposal would come to the full Council at the July 27, 1998 <br /> Council Meeting. <br /> MEMO 7/14/98 <br /> C. Council Member Ira asked whether rollerbladers and bicyclists would be permitted use of <br /> the proposed, new Skateboard Park, and requested a report from Parks, Recreation and <br /> Community Services Superintendent Centeno on this matter. (708) <br /> MEMO 7/14/98 <br /> D. Mayor Howard announced that over this past weekend the American Cancer Society <br /> sponsored a "Relay for Life" at Sequoia High School for the first time. She said it was a <br /> 24-hour fund raising event to raise awareness and money for cancer research and treatment. <br /> Mayor Howard said the event was hugely successful, with thirteen teams participating and <br /> many local restaurants and stores providing food and sustenance to the participants. She <br /> said Redwood City's team, The Heavy Breathers, led by Planning and Redevelopment <br /> Director Michael Church, joined the other twelve teams in raising over $33,000 over the <br /> 24-hour period. She said the participants made sure at least one of the group was walking <br /> the track at all times.
