<br /> SUBJECT
<br /> An Ordinance adopting by reference the "California Fire Code, 2013 edition; and
<br /> An Ordinance adopting by reference the 2013 California Building, Residential,
<br /> Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy, Historical Building, Existing Building,
<br /> and Green Building Standards Codes; together with certain amendments,
<br /> exceptions, modifications and additions, thereto
<br /> RECOMMENDATION
<br /> Hold Public Hearing and receive public comment;
<br /> Waive second reading and adopt an Ordinance Repealing Article II of Chapter 12 and
<br /> adopting a new Article II of Chapter 12 adopting by reference the California Fire Code
<br /> 2013 with local amendments; and
<br /> Waive second reading and adopt an Ordinance of the City of Redwood City repealing
<br /> Articles IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and X of Chapter 9 of the Redwood City Municipal Code and
<br /> adopting new Articles IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, and IX of Chapter 9 of the Redwood City
<br /> Municipal Code adopting by reference Title 24, parts 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 11 of
<br /> the California Code of Regulations, namely the 2013 California Building, Residential,
<br /> Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy, Historical Building, Existing Building, and
<br /> Green Building Standards Codes, together with certain amendments, exceptions,
<br /> modifications and additions, thereto
<br /> BACKGROUND
<br /> On December 9, 2013, the City Council held the first reading of the ordinances
<br /> implementing the changes to the City's Building and Fire Codes and set a public
<br /> hearing for this Council meeting. Notices required under state law for adoption were
<br /> published in the newspaper. This public hearing is required because the City is adopting
<br /> the state codes by reference. The proposed ordinances and the state codes being
<br /> adopted by reference have been available in the City Clerk's office for review by the
<br /> public, since the first reading.
<br /> ANALYSIS
<br /> Adoption of the ordinance enables the City to implement the state mandated building
<br /> and fire code updates and include other local amendments as necessary. The state
<br /> code became effective January 1, 2014. The City's code amendments will become
