7.1.H. - Page 3 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. <br /> RESOLUTION WAIVING AND REDUCING DEVELOPMENT AND <br /> PERMIT APPLICATION FEES PAYABLE BY SAN MATEO COUNTY <br /> FOR CONSTRUCTION OF NEW COUNTY JAIL <br /> WHEREAS, San Mateo County is in the process of constructing a new county jail <br /> and acquired property for that purpose, located at 1300 Maple Street, Redwood City, <br /> California, which property was a former industrial development; and <br /> WHEREAS, with the urging and assistance of the City and for other good and <br /> substantial reasons, San Mateo County selected this site rather than build a new facility <br /> in downtown Redwood City; and <br /> WHEREAS, locating the county jail outside of the Redwood City downtown <br /> benefits the City by constructing a new and modern facility in a former industrial area, that <br /> required remediation of hazardous materials on site, thereby improving a blighted area of <br /> Redwood City; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City and County are working together to create a better downtown <br /> area and the County jail projects contributes to that by enabling County properties to be <br /> developed to a higher and better use that can provide professional and technical workers <br /> to support the City's efforts to revitalize the economy of the downtown; and <br /> WHEREAS, by not building the jail downtown, County land remains available for <br /> office and other development that brings professional and technical jobs to the downtown <br /> with employees who are likely to access the restaurants and post-work activities that have <br /> driven the resurgence of the downtown; and <br /> WHEREAS, during the course of design and construction, the County encountered <br /> additional costs associated with hazardous material clean up and greater than anticipated <br /> City fees; and <br /> WHEREAS, as part of the County jail project, the County will construct and install <br /> sanitary sewer lines with more capacity than necessary for its project as a benefit to the <br /> City, and <br /> WHEREAS, the increased size of the sewer lines will reduce the demand for City <br /> maintenance of these lines, and <br /> ATTY/RESO.2948/COUNTY JAIL FEE WAIVER <br /> REV:01-17-14 JS <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
