5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Recognition - SamTrans' "Art Takes a Ride" Winners Program for 2013 <br /> -Tymofiy Kornyeyev, 1 st Grade, Sandpiper Elementary, Keya Arora, 3rd <br /> Grade, Sandpiper Elementary, Taylor Gee, 4th Grade, Sandpiper, and <br /> Adrienne Evans, 5th Grade, North Star Academy -Jeffrey Gee, Vice <br /> Mayor <br /> Vice Mayor Gee mentioned that SamTrans had over 500 students participating in this <br /> art contest throughout San Mateo County. He congratulated the participants for their <br /> accomplishments and their families. Vice Mayor Gee also said that their art work will be <br /> placed on the buses. <br /> B. Certificate of Recognition - Redwood City Little League - Francisco <br /> (Ponch) Robles, President -Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor and Rosanne Foust, <br /> Council Member <br /> Both Mayor Aguirre and Council Member Foust went to the podium to recognize the <br /> Redwood City Little League. Council Member Foust acknowledged that there were <br /> thousands of people attending and participating on the first day of Little League. In <br /> addition, she acknowledged the volunteers, families, coaches and supporters who make <br /> Redwood City a special place. <br /> At this time, Mr. Francisco Robles was not in attendance, but Ryan Headley, one of the <br /> Board Members of the league, went up to the podium and thanked the City Council and <br /> the community for this recognition. <br /> C. Recognition - Downtown Events T-Shirt Design Award Winner— Betty <br /> Matsumoto-Shuch, local Freelance Illustrator -Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre invited Ms. Matsumoto-Shuch, winner of T-shirt design, Beth Mostovoy, <br /> Tom Mohr, and Pamela Estes, board members of the Redwood City Parks and Arts <br /> Foundation. Ms. Estes briefly spoke about the art organizations in Redwood City, and <br /> Ms. Mostovoy presented Ms. Matsumoto-Shuch with a check for her T-shirt design. <br /> Also, some of the members, in attendance and with art organizations, were recognized. <br /> Furthermore, each Council Member received a free T-shirt. <br /> At this time Mr. Francisco Robles was at the Chambers and Mayor Aguirre invited him <br /> to come to the podium. He thanked everyone involved on Opening Day, and mentioned <br /> that all the leagues are now merged into one league. The Mayor thanked all the <br /> coaches and volunteers. Council Member Foust referenced former-Mayor Jim <br /> Hartnett's involvement with little league, and how the league and arts programs build <br /> community. She also encouraged everyone to buy and wear the T-shirts. <br /> 6.
