PUBLIC HEARING(S) (Agenda packet page # 69)
A. Public Hearing On Proposed Increase To Water Utility Service Rates
And Charges (802)
Terence Kyaw, Assistant Public Director, made a presentation to Council on both public
hearings 7A and 7B (presentation on file). He presented background information on the
Water and Sewer Enterprise Funds which are self-sustaining funds and are separate
from the General Fund. The Water Fund supports both the distribution system and
recycled water system which affect the water rates. Since Redwood City is part of the
Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System and they are working on their improvement
project, we contribute $10 million dollars to that project as well as about $4 million
dollars into Redwood City's aging infrastructure.
Mr. Kyaw then presented on second public hearing. He discussed that the Sewer
Enterprise Fund is part of a collection system operated and maintained by Redwood
City and the waste water treatment plant is operated by the South Bayside System
Authority (SBSA). Mr. Kyaw stated that the City Clerk received 80 protest letters out of
23,000 customers.
JOINT COUNCIL/SUCCESSOR AGENCY BOARD June 10, 2013
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 3
MINUTE BOOK NO. 64
Page No. 375
