ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (203) <br /> A. Maria Diaz C-Vivian, 438 Cedar Street, expressed appreciation to Officer Dan Smith and <br /> the Redwood City Police Department for assistance in resolving an incident that occurred <br /> on October 13, 1997. She stated that it was reassuring to have dedicated and professional <br /> police officers serving the community. She also complimented City staff for the one-stop <br /> permit review service and said that Inspector Bob Hall was most helpful in her latest permit <br /> process to build a handicap ramp. <br /> B. Robyn Pierce, 1122 Valota Road, read a letter to the Council and submitted it to the City <br /> Clerk (on file in the City Clerk Department). She described in detail the dangerous traffic <br /> conditions on Valota Road between Redwood and Roosevelt. She expressed concern over <br /> the speeding traffic and the heavy trucks and oil tankers that were using Valota Road as a <br /> thoroughfare between Woodside Road and Jefferson. She also described the damage to the <br /> curbs caused by vehicles illegally parked on sidewalks. She requested that the Police <br /> Department enforce the excessive speed limit and parking restrictions so the neighborhood <br /> would be safe for children to play in their ITont yards and people could walk along the <br /> - sidewalks. Mrs. Pierce also stated that she was billed $195 for repairs to the curbs and <br /> sidewalks in front of her house caused by other vehicles parking on the sidewalk. <br /> In response to a question from Council Member Claire, City Manager Everett stated that <br /> he would look into Mrs. Pierce's concerns and the repair bill she received. <br /> Mayor Howard agreed that speed and excessive traffic are consistently reported as the <br /> number one problem in Redwood City, and she asked the City Manager to update the <br /> Council on this matter. <br /> MEMO 1/27/97 <br /> C. Don Warren, 125 Stony Brook, Los Gatos, representing the Redwood City-San Mateo <br /> County Chamber of Commerce described the following items of interest to the City: <br /> I. Wednesday, January 28, 1998, the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting will be <br /> held at Hotel Sofitel to honor members who have been in the Chamber of Commerce <br /> for over 25 years, and present other awards to community leaders. <br /> 2. The Annual Progress Seminar, which is one of the best examples of civic government <br /> on the Peninsula, will be held ITom April 17 through April 19, 1998.
