Mateo, spoke <br /> about Project Casa. The project creates access to smoke-free housing and is a part of <br /> the San Mateo County Tobacco Education Coalition. <br /> Francisco Sajuan, a member of YO! Mateo, a youth leadership coalition, a health <br /> advocate and Canada College student, spoke about his work in the community which <br /> encourages students to be a healthy part of the community. He spoke about his <br /> concern about living in an environment that is not smoke-free and the need to create <br /> positive change. <br /> Mario Vasquez, a member of YO! Mateo, a youth leadership coalition, a resident, father, <br /> student, and youth advocate, spoke about the dangers of second hand smoke. He <br /> spoke in favor of passing an ordinance similar to ones in the cities of Belmont and Daly <br /> City to ban smoking. <br /> Christian Finao, a member of YO! Mateo, a youth leadership coalition, youth advocate, <br /> and student, spoke about Project Casa. He spoke about meeting with landlords and the <br /> community about the potential health benefits and reduced insurance costs. He said <br /> they want to meet individually with Council for further discussion. <br /> Anthony Heimuli, a member of YO! Mateo, a youth leadership coalition, spoke about the <br /> young people who are part of the organization and part of the community. He said they <br /> see the effects of second-hand smoking and there is a need to take time to connect <br /> further with Council on creating smoke-free housing. <br /> Sandy Orozco, Erika Mendoza, and Ana Becerra, high school students in the <br /> community, spoke together about Keystone of the Boys and Girls club of Redwood City <br /> in providing career exploration, bringing the community together, and the need for more <br /> improvement in certain areas, such as security. <br /> James Lee Han said he is a current candidate for City Council and thanked the Council <br /> for supporting AB 1229, which was ultimately vetoed by the Governor. He stated that <br /> the City could do other things to support affordable housing in Redwood City. He noted <br /> what the City of San Mateo has done for affordable housing as an example of what <br /> Redwood City could do. He agreed with comments by an earlier speaker and opined <br /> that the two community meetings he had recently attended, did not seem to have <br /> enough public notice. He noted some upcoming meetings about Pete's Harbor on <br /> Saturday, November 9th and Wednesday November 13th. <br /> Dr. Bell, City Manager, said there were follow up meetings with department heads and <br /> with Council regarding recent incidents/emergencies and that there are learning <br /> opportunities on how they can improve communication and better coordinate activities <br /> post-incident. They have decided that in the future, they will open the EOC (Emergency <br /> Operations Center) and develop a better communication plan and follow up steps.
