ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (203)
A. Pete Hughes, 18 Admiralty Court, described the problems caused by some wildlife in the
Redwood Shores Area. He said the Humane Society advised that feeding wildlife is not
only unhealthy for the animals, but develops overpopulation and aggressive behavior. Mr.
Hughes advised that he imd his wife had been working with City staff to develop
informational signs asking people not to feed wildlife, and the problems that ensue; and
asked that Council approve the signs which he and his wife will provide to the City at no
cost.
Mr. Hughes displayed a beautiful cookbook authored by the residents of Casa de
Redwood. He said the book was choek full of gourmet secrets, and at $10 the book was a
- real buy, especially for Christmas. Mr. Hughes said the profits from the book's sales
would benefit the recreation programs at Casa de Redwood. Councilman Claire snapped
up the first book, and Mr. Hughes said he would have more books for everyone else who
wished to buy one immediately following the Council meeting.
B. Dr. Steven Howard, 907 Katherine, expressed his concern for illegal signage in Redwood
City. He said almost all the candidates had done an outstanding job obeying the laws
regulating political signs, and only a few had posted illegal signs. He said illegal signs
were a form of graffiti and asked if the City had a clear and defined policy to deal with this
problem. He said it was important for different agencies to cooperate in this effort, and
suggested that business licenses be "pulled" until signs were removed.
Dr. Howard described the great clean-up effort in the Rolison Road area that took place
on October 25 and wondered why more candidates weren't there and why there wasn't
more press coverage for such a positive event in the community.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.
