ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (203) <br /> - John Murphy, 421 Luff Lane, Redwood City, distributed a written text of his remarks (on <br /> A. <br /> file in the City Clerk Department) and reiterated his concerns about the sale of Bair Island <br /> and the resulting loss of tax revenues to the City. He said the recent election was a wake <br /> up call, and the long delayed Redwood Shores Fire Station was too little and too late for <br /> one residence. Mr. Murphy addressed specific concerns regarding fire safety, OlD 1-64 <br /> and maintenance and operation assessments. He said no reply was necessary, the <br /> Council's future actions would speak louder than words. <br /> MEMO ll/18/97 <br /> B. Bill Newell, 1117 Fay Street, Redwood City, recounted the tragedy that occurred recently <br /> when an elderly couple, crossing El Camino Real near Selby Lane in Atherton, was killed <br /> by a speeding motorist. Mr. Newell described significant traffic and safety problems for <br /> seniors and children in Redwood City and asked the council to focus efforts to protect <br /> them. He described the community's successful efforts to get a traffic light near John Gill <br /> School, and spoke in favor of continued partnerships to protect seniors and children. Mr. <br /> Newell, member of the Redwood City Senior Affairs Commission, said the Commission <br /> intended to work on traffic problems. <br /> Couneilman Claire said he would contact Atherton's Mayor and renew Redwood City's <br /> request to form a partnership to address traffic problems in that area. <br /> - MEMO 11/18/97 <br /> Mayor Howard advised that the Council would be discussing traffic safety at its <br /> workshop scheduled for January 24, 1997. <br /> MEMO 11/18/97 <br /> ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> 3.
