Donna Zaeany, 591 Marlin Court, spoke frorn the audience, and expressed her objection
to the Project. She said she agreed with LaVerne Atherly and Carol Ford, and yielded her
time to the next speaker.
Greg Stone, 570 Avocet Drive, said he read about the Project in the Pilot and drove to the
site. He said he thought about the Project quite a bit, and "what the long term impacts
would be.... I, too live two blocks from Redwood Shores Parkway, but I have a different
opinion about this Project. I am for it. And the reason I am for it. .. First of all, if you look
at this project and you look at commercial zoning, and you look at your options,
greenhouse, warehousing, storage, and you want to have the highest and best use for a
Project, the highest return on your property values, warehousing and nurseries are not it. If
you have nurseries, you will have trucks, if you have warehouses, you still have trucks.
You will have an unsightly property that deteriorates very quickly. If you have an office
building, you have a project that will add value to the community.... I think I have gotten
most of my gray hair frorn driving down Redwood Shores Parkway and 101, but I get in
line like everybody else. If you add another 1,000 residential units in that area, you have
just doubled the impact of everyone trying to leave Redwood Shores. If any of these
people here want to go to any of the office buildings that are 100,000 square feet in
Redwood Shores and stand in the driveway, I think you will have a different perception of
how many cars actually come in... I think it is important for people to remember that a lot
- of us would rather work close to where they live, not drive to San Jose, not drive across
town. A lot of people would benefit from being close to an apartment complex... I think
also that the tax revenues that you gain from this Project, $750,000, I think you should be
able to give that money back to the residents of Redwood Shores in some kind of a park...
betterment of the trails, something you can give back to have this kind of a project. It is a
Project that long term will make sense."
Dr. Walter Gelon, 622 Island Place, said, "When I moved into my home about three years
ago, my dog was getting off the porch, and I wanted to fix my gate. So I got permission
from the Architectural Committee, Shorebird Island Homeowners Association, and the
Redwood Shores Homeowners Association. And they came out and looked at my plans,
made me modify them a little bit, and now my dog is doing just fine."
Mayor Howard called upon Wayne Chin, Paula Meier, and Karen Paee who did not
answer.
Jeff Schroeder, 330 Crow Canyon Place, San Ramon, Director of Land Acquisition for
Ryland Homes, owner of almost all the remaining undeveloped property in the Lido
Project, expressed his support for the proposed office building. Mr. Schroeder said, "We
believe the owners and developers of the Project have done their best to reduce the impact
on our Project by locating their building about as far away as possible on the site, so it is
- the least visible from our site. It is also preferable to a RV Park, a warehouse, or any of
