MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A Viee Mayor Ruskin announced that the all the planters along Broadway had been <br /> replanted and would be maintained by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br /> staff. <br /> MEMO 12/1/97 <br /> B. Mayor Howard announced that the League of California Cities has urged its members to <br /> write their representatives in Washington expressing their opposition to HR 1534 and SB <br /> 1256. Both bills contain provisions that would allow federal usurpation of local land use <br /> authority. <br /> n______--______n________n____________n_nnnnnn--_n___n_n__n______-------______n______---------------------- <br /> 8. STAFF REPORTS <br /> A. Street Tree Planting Poliey: City Council discussed the City's existing tree planting <br /> policy for street tree installations; <br /> REPORT: Public Works Superintendent Mann, December 1,1997 <br /> Publie Works Services Director Ingram and Superintendent and Arborist Mann <br /> presented the staff report and additional information regarding street trees and street tree <br /> policies in Redwood City. They advised that staff will replace a tree it has removed during <br /> street and sidewalk repair only if the adjacent property owner promises to water and <br /> monitor it for the next two years. Currently there is a 30-50% participation in that <br /> program. <br /> Couneil expressed its strong support for increasing the number of street trees in Redwood <br /> City.
