Recognition of the Sequoia DECA Investment Club for being placed in <br /> the top 25 high schools of the 2013 -2014 Stock Market Game for the <br /> Western Region - Steven Wong, Teacher Advisor - Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> Mayor Gee invited the Steven Wong, Teacher Advisor to introduce the club members. <br /> Mr. Wong had provided some background information as to why this club was formed <br /> and how he became the advisor. Mayor Gee acknowledged that in the four months of <br /> their participation in the Stock Market Game, they had a 23% return in their stocks, <br /> which is impressive and wished them well in the national competition in Atlanta in May <br /> 2014. <br /> B. Redwood City Education Foundation (RCEF) Award for Chris Beth, <br /> Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director - Jo -Ann Sockolov, <br /> RCEF Executive Director and Another Surprise Recognition <br /> Mayor Gee said that the RCEF is a great partner to the Redwood City community and <br /> welcomed Jo -Ann Sockolov to the podium. She invited four important volunteers Rick <br /> Hunter, Ron Delaine, Tommy Vargas, and Kim Freitas to the podium to award Parks, <br /> Recreation, and Community Services Director Beth and his team the annual investor <br /> award for their services in enriching and empowering the lives of many of Redwood <br /> City's youth. The actual award will be given at the Benefit for a Brighter Future event <br /> on April 4, 2014 at Canada College. <br /> Mayor Gee then asked Jeff Norris, District Coordinator of the Sheriff's Office Homeland <br /> Security Division of the Office of Emergency Services and Don Mattei, Supervising <br /> Coordinator of the Office of Emergency Services' Sheriff's Office to meet him at the <br /> podium for a surprise award. They thanked and recalled how Chris Beth and Teri Chin, <br /> Human Services Manager, showed compassion and provided services at the various <br /> emergency fire events in Redwood City. Parks, Recreation, and Community Services <br /> Director Beth and Human Services Manager Chin each received a recognition award <br /> from the Office of Emergency Services. Mayor Gee thanked them and City Manager <br /> Bell for his leadership. <br /> C. Hometown Holidays Recognition - Downtown Business Group Members <br /> Nina and Keith Kadera, Dave and Brenda Ingram and Janet Borgens - <br /> Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> David Ingram spoke on behalf of the Downtown Business Group and mentioned that he <br /> will be the new Chair of the Downtown Business Group this year. He also mentioned <br /> how this event has grown and became popular for the purpose of children having a day <br /> of festivities during the holiday season. He asked Janet Borgens to present the two <br /> awards. Bethlehem A.D. won the Virginia Ball Award, which best represents the theme <br /> of holiday parade. The second award, Best Fits the Theme, went to Studio S Broadway <br /> Entertainment Company. Both received trophies and checks for $500. <br /> D.
