7.1.D. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
March 10, 2014
SUBJECT
Dates for City Council Consideration of the Fiscal Year 2014 -2014 Budget
RECOMMENDATION
Approve, by motion, the dates for City Council action on the Budget.
BACKGROUND
Sections 51 and 51.5 of the Redwood City Charter require that the City Council
establish the date of the budget presentation by the City Manager, and, by resolution,
the date for budget public hearing and budget adoption.
ANALYSIS
A resolution setting the public hearing and the date for the budget adoption will be
submitted prior to the budget being submitted to Council. The purpose of the action
before you at tonight's meeting is to formalize your approval of the following dates upon
which budget related actions will occur:
Budget Sent to Council: Thursday, May 29, 2014
City Council Budget: Study Session Monday, June 9, 2014
Budget Adoption and Public Hearing Monday, June 23, 2014
ALTERNATIVES
Although the City Charter requires that the Council, by motion, establish a date upon
which the "... City Manager shall submit to the Council a proposed budget... ," it is
nonetheless the Council's prerogative to select the date that they believe is most
appropriate. Accordingly, the dates provided in this report are those dates
recommended by the City Manager and may be changed at Council's discretion.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with approving the dates for budget related action.
