I I II III

Mayor Hartnett offered some biographical information about Bob Distefano as the Council
adjourned in his memory. "Bob is survived by a brother and sister in Pennsylvania. He
received his B.A. in Journalism, as many of you know ITom U.C.L.A. He was in the news
- business for over 40 years, starting in Louisiana at the Daily Advertiser. I'm not sure, but I have
to believe that is where he met Lettie. He started as a cub reporter there in 1956, and I have to
admit, that it is hard to imagine Bob as a cub reporter. He worked for the Independent Star in
Southern California and the Oakland Tribune (where) I believe he worked for 14 years. For 14
years as wen he has been the publisher of the Redwood City Almanac beginning in 1982. He
was a lifetime member of the Galileo Lodge, Sons ofItaly, former member of the Redwood City
Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the American Legion and a veteran of the U.S. Air Corps.
There is much more we could all say about Bob, but in adjourning in his memory I know one of
the things we win most remember is that he was a champion of the people's right to know,
about the influence of the government and its various activities; and a strong believer that it's in
the ITeedom of the press and in a diligent, observant press over the operations of government,
both behind closed doors and in the open air of the public, that all the people in the community
are better served, and democracy flourishes."
Mayor Hartnett also expressed the Council's sincerest sympathies to the families of Clarence
K. Nevin, who had been a member of the Redwood City family and who had worked in the
City's Engineering Department; and Diane Pellizari, a long time member of the Redwood City
community who died just before Christmas, and who the Mayor had known for over 30 years.
(203)
MIS: BUCHANILA BERGE TO ADJOURN THE MEETING IN MEMORY OF BOB DISTEFANO,
- CLARENCE NEVIN AND DIANE PELLIZARI.
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE AND MEETING ADJOURNED AT 8:08 P.M.
7e~
Arlyn C.
