- - . ,-,
Councilman Leipzig's mother was Mayor of Redwood City and she actually swore him in.
Director Griffiths thanked Chief Bolanos, Captains Vermeer and Granucci and Sgt.
Rodriguez "for making this Proclamation possible," and added that it had been a wonderful
- twenty plus years.
Mayor Hartnett said it would be difficult for anyone to match Director Griffith's 9,200
hours of volunteer service to the community. He said the tasks he had to perform over the
years weren't always easy, but "Peter always approached those tasks with great dedication
and professionalism, and our entire City has benefited ITom them."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mayor Hartnett recessed the Council Meeting at 7:50 p.m. in order to call to order the regular
Redevelopment Agency Meeting.
Council Meeting reconvened at 7:55 p.m.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (203)
A. Ralph Nobles, 3720 Country Club Drive, Redwood City, addressed the issue of a
connector road ITom Redwood Shores to Whipple Avenue as it related to Bair Island. He
referred to a San Jose Mercury article quoting him as saying that road would never be
built. He said that when he was quoted, he was actually referring to the old proposal for a
road through Bair Island to be built by South Shores developers, and said obviously that
road would never occur. But that was a different matter ITom a ITontage road. Mr. Nobles
said, "there may be a mutual County and City interest in such a road." He said CalTrans
'-- owns "a right-of-way that extends approximately 150 feet between the edge of the
pavement over to the beginning of the Wildlife property. That's enough to put in four
lanes of traffic." However, he questioned the purpose of such a road, its cost, who actually
wanted it, and how best to meet the traffic needs of Redwood City. Mr. Nobles said the
Redwood Shores Owners Association recently voted to oppose such a connector road.
MEMO 2/25/97
Mayor Hartnett said the City is currently gathering information with respect to the
possibilities of a connector road, and asked City Manager Everett to find out more about
the 150 foot CalTrans right-of-way.
MEMO 2/25/97
B. Hilary Paulson, 3733 Country Club Drive, Redwood City, asked the Council to increase
the parking around Schaberg Library, especially in view of the proposed development at
2150 Roosevelt Avenue (Item 3.D. on the Agenda.)
MEMO 2/25/97
Mrs. Paulson said the wonderful old play equipment had fmally been removed ITom
Stulsaft Park, and asked Council to approve Park and Recreation's recommendations for
- new equipment when it comes before the Council in the near future.
MEMO 2/25197
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 FEBRUARY 24,1997
MINUTES Page No. 163 PAGE 2
