Long-Term Ti 7.1.D. - Page 17 <br /> 2.0 SCOPE OF THE TRASH PROBLEM <br /> 2.1 Permittee Characteristics <br /> Incorporated in 1868,the City of Redwood City is located in San Mateo County,and has a <br /> jurisdictional area of 9,103acres. According to the 2010 Census, it has a population of 76,815,with <br /> a population density of 2,218.5 people per square mile and average household size of 3.26. Of the four source categories, <br /> pedestrian litter includes trash sources from high traffic areas near businesses and schools, <br /> transitional areas where food/drinks are not permitted (e.g.bus stops),and from public or private <br /> special events with high volumes of people.Trash from vehicles occurs due to littering from <br /> automobiles and uncovered loads. Inadequate waste container management includes sources such <br /> as overflowing or uncovered containers and dumpsters as well as the dispersion of household and <br /> 1 <br /> A Permittee's jurisdictional area is defined as the urban land area within a Permittee's boundary that is not subject to stormwater NPDES <br /> Permit requirements for traditional and non-traditional small MS4s(i.e.Phase II MS4s)or the California Department of Transportation,or <br /> owned and maintained by the State of California,the U.S.federal government or other municipal agency or special district(e.g.,flood control <br /> district). <br /> 9 <br />
