MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST (203) <br /> Announcements by Council Members: <br /> A. Vice Mayor Howard announced that in celebration of the Week of the Young Child there <br /> will be a Day in the Park in Red Morton Center on Thursday, April 17, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 <br /> p.m. There will be face painting, juice, popcorn, a fire truck and police car, and other <br /> surprises with Chuck Ashton and company ITom the Library. Vice Mayor Howard said <br /> several hundred people attended last year, and invited everyone to attend this fun event. <br /> B. Vice Mayor Howard announced that on Saturday, April 19, there will be a City clean-up <br /> - sponsored by the Pride and Beautification Committee. Sign-up for the project of your <br /> choice begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Public Works Services Center, 1400 Broadway, and will <br /> include sweeping, cleaning, trimming, painting and cleaning waterways. A barbecue will <br /> follow at 12:30 p.m. <br /> C. Vice Mayor Howard announced that applications were available for the Mayor's <br /> Beautification awards, sponsored for the last ten years by the Pride and Beautification <br /> Committee honoring people in the community who have upgraded their homes or their <br /> businesses to help beautify Redwood City. Deadline for submittal of applications is <br /> Friday, May 16, and plaques will be presented at the end of June at a Council meeting. <br /> Applications are available at all City facilities, or call Vice Mayor Howard for further <br /> information. <br /> D. Councilman Claire introduced two former Council Members in attendance, Paul <br /> Sanfilipo and Bob Spillers. <br /> F. Councilwoman La Berge reported that on Saturday night, she and her husband attended a <br /> fund raiser for the Woodside High School Instrumental Band, sponsored by the Redwood <br /> City School Foundation. "It was a wonderful evening with young people performing with <br /> a wonderful jazz band...
