I think this street's length is short, it is not a big street. I think the parcel overall is not a big parcel. There are many churches in neighborhoods that are self contained, in that they are on their own block, and they do have their own access, egress and ingress, and they are not abutting houses. The parking lot does not abut back yards of a number of houses. And while there is an impact on on-street parking, the overall impact of the church is not as severe as has been described to us. And a lot of it is simply the accident of the geography, so to speak, where the church happens to have originally developed and found itself. I think in a sense we have that accident here where this church is located. I am going to support the motion to uphold the appeal with very mixed emotions, because I think churches are very important to the quality of life in our community, and not only a spiritual but in a material way as well. And I think we should encourage the growth of churches, not diminish them, and I would hope that every church is going to flourish, but when it does so in limited contours in which some of the churches find themselves, there are impacts that may be unavoidable and by accident of geography just too much for a particular neighborhood. I think with the change in intensity of use in a parcel this size, and it is not self- contained on a street that is not long, it makes it very difficult in this particular occasion. I would like to find and have the parties find some way to better co-exist, -- and I would hope that some day we would be presented with an opportunity to pass upon something most people, not all, but most people would say, we all find this to be neighborly. .. I think it is going to require some creative solutions that are not in front of us tonight to accomplish that."
