I I I I I II

City Manager Everett said that "Council was clear that they wanted that
-- amortization, shorter versus longer."
MEMO 7/15/97
Councilman Leipzig suggested that "Now Leaving Redwood City and Now entering
Redwood City" signs be erected at the southern border to let people know that the
adult book store in that area was in the County unincorporated area where the County
does a poor job of code enforcement.
In response to Vice Mayor Howard's suggestion to ask the County to join Redwood
City in pursuing an Ordinance enforcing restrictions on adult businesses, Planner
Rizk said the County does have an Ordinance in place, but the book store in question
probably existed before the Ordinance went into effect and therefore is not subject to
regulation. Vice Mayor Howard said in light of the residential area right across the
street and Redwood City's efforts to regulate these kinds of businesses perhaps the
County would like to revisit their ordinance and the idea of amortization.
Councilman Leipzig recommended that staff work show the County the City's
Ordinance and describe what we are trying to do, and tell the Board of Supervisors,
"We really want you to approve this."
Vice Mayor Howard thanked staff for its diligent efforts to accomplish Council
-- priorities of beautifying El Camino Real, and stressed the need for effective tools
with which to remedy problems, such as this proposed ordinance and the newsrack
ordinance.
ITERATION OF MOTION
MIS: BUCHAN/HOWARD. TITLE READ.
ORDINANCE NO. 2127 FURTHER EXTENDING A MORATORIUM UPON THE
OPENING OR EXPANSION OF ADULT-ORIENTED BUSINESSES IN THE CITY OF
REDWOOD CITY (First reading June 23, 1997)
ADOPTED BY UNANIMOUS ROLL CALL VOTE.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C.
