I I I I I II

D. John Murphy, 421 Luff Lane, Redwood City, said he had arrived "at 7:10 p.m." and wanted
his remarks included in the Board of Equalization meeting minutes. Mr. Murphy submitted a
'-' letter (on file in the City Clerk Department.) Mr. Murphy said the "18 remaining taxable
properties on 'Bair Island' have been upgraded from $4,002,500 last year to $12,961,000 this
year." He added that would amount to a loss of $250,000 in taxes over the life of the GID 1-
64 bond payments. Mr. Murphy questioned if the City had attempted to "recover any part of
this lost tax revenue from the reported 10 million dollar government land grant?"
Mayor Hartnett said, "Mr. Murphy, you know the answer to that.... The fact is that we
don't own that land, and we don't control the private sale of that land.... We appreciate the
fact that you bring this to our attention, because it is important for us to realize the
economic consequences to everyone of the sale of the land, and what may happen if it is
taken off the tax rolls. You've been very clear and diligent in bringing that to our
attention."
MEMO 7/29/97
Councilman Leipzig said, "Just for the record, I would like to point out that in Mr.
Murphy's letter he states that prior to the Council's resolution endorsing the preservation of
Bair Island as an open space, yes, we don't own land or control it, but I tend to agree with
Mr. Murphy, and as you recall I voted against that resolution endorsing the transfer of Bair
Island. There is some relationship there."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- Mayor Hartnett recessed the Council Meeting at 7:49 p.m. in order to call to order the regular
Redevelopment Agency Meeting.
The Council Meeting reconvened at 7:57 p.m.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.
