Floors on lower floor out of level. <br /> 7. Upstairs out of plumb. <br /> 8. Illegal �iring. <br /> 9. Bathroom opens off kitche; window opens onto closed porch. This is illegal. <br /> 10. Insufficient head room in front over stairs. <br /> 11. Water heater in bathroom - illegal. <br /> �... 12, Building is in No. 1 Fire Zone and cannot be made to comply with the require- <br /> ments of No. 1 Fire Zone. <br /> � It is the recommendation of this department that the building be demolished <br /> and the lot cleared. <br /> Pictures were identified as those taken of the premises under construction. Recommen- <br /> dation is for the building to be ra�ed. <br /> � <br /> Chief Lodi was sworn in. Chief Lodi inspected the same premisea on May 7th and corrob- <br /> � <br /> oratedthe testimony of Assistant Building Inspector Kreiss. Special attention was called <br /> to sub-standard wiring, illegal vents on heater, illegal wiring, insufficient headroom on <br /> stairs and unsafe condition of outside stairs. Building was sub-standard and located in <br /> a No. 1 �Fire Zone. Chief Lodi stated he had 24 years experience in the Fire Department, <br /> eight years of which was in the cap acity of Chief. He also recommends that the buiTding <br /> be razed. Mr. A1 Davies addressed the Council at length and stated he was interested in <br /> finding out if the Council was attempting to have the bu.ilding removed or mainly inter- <br /> ested in the safety of the tenants. He claimed that a fe�r minor repairs would take care <br /> of mast of the conditions as mentioned in the inspectors report. Mr. Davies questioned <br /> Building Inspector Kreiss as to the amount necessary to make the building safe. He <br /> stated that a large percent of' the old buildings in town had sub-standard wiring. Mayor <br /> '"`� Herkner asked that Mr. Davies brin� in a contractors estimate if he feels that the build- <br /> � ing can be put in condition in accordance with ordinance. Councilman Granger questioned <br /> as t o whether Mr. Davies was requesting the Council to hold over the proceedings for one <br /> wesk to allow him to bring in information regarding ttie repairs within the 20� or replace- <br /> ment value as cavered by ordinance. Mr. Davies was agreeable to holding the matter up <br /> for one week. Councilman Granger then moved that in view of Mr. Davies � request for one <br /> week continuance be allowed him to give an opportunity to confer with department he ads. <br /> Motion seconded by Councilman Royer. Councilman Britschgi was still of the opinion that <br /> �. Davies should bring in a contractors estimate. Motion carried on roll call, Council- <br /> man Jones absent. Placed on agenda of June ll}th. <br /> ABATEIV�NT OF SHED ON FRNAKLIN STREET NEAR JEFFERSON AVENUE. Mr. Davies stated the shed had <br /> been torn down. There being sorn� question as to completion of t he �ob, Davies was re- <br /> „�.,,,, quested to have the premises cleaned up and the old truck bodies removed. Councilman <br /> � <br /> Granger moved the matter be continue d for one week, seconded by Councilman Royer, a nd <br /> carried. Placed on agenda of June l�.th. <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION�S RECONA�TDATION TO DENY VARIANCE TO MR. M. BERNSOHAT to allo� a 5t 4�' <br /> fence in required front yard where 3� fence is allowed. The property is at the corner <br /> � of Elwood Street and Whipple Avenue , (1503 Whipple Avenue ) . Councilme.n Royer and Council- <br /> �' man Britschgi both stated they had looked the situgtion over and had no objection to the <br /> variance inasmuch as others in the neighborhood had similar situations and had the addi- <br /> tional height requested by Mr. Bernsohn. Councilman Royer then moved the matter be held <br /> over one �►eek to allow other Councilmen to instpect the premises. Motion seconded by <br /> Councilman Britschgi. Councilman Granger stated he was willing to abide by t he study of <br /> the aforementioned Councilmen and the original motion was withdrawn. Councilman Granger <br />
