1 �� <br /> Public hearing having been closed and protests onerruled, the next order of business was <br /> to adopt the nec�ssary resolutions. <br /> RESOLUTION N0. 1720 ORDERING THE T�IORK ON KENSINGTQN SQUARE N0. 5 IMPROVENIENT was offered by <br /> Councilman Britschgi, who moved adoption, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried on <br /> roll call, Councilmen Jones, Royer and Spillera noted absent. <br /> �""° RESOLUTION N0. 1721 AWARDING CONTRACT TO GEORGE C. RENZ CONSZ'RUCTION CO. , INC. AT �64�635•88• <br /> irr�„ Resolution introduced by Councilman Britschgi, who moved adoption, seconded by Councilman <br /> Stout and carried on roll call, Councilmen Jones, Royer and Spillers noted absent. <br /> REPORT ON BID OPENING, RECONSTRUCT JEFFERSON AVENUE BRIDGE, M.C.S. N0. 62. The following bids <br /> � <br /> were received: <br /> Clifford and Badenhamer � 16,500.00 <br /> � Arthur Brothers 1-7,828.00 <br /> oscar C. Holmes 19,11.�.0.00 <br /> John Q. Cit y Engineer Jain recomrrr�eends acceptance of <br /> bid of Clifford and Bodenhamer at �16,500.00.which was concurred in by City Idianager Roli- <br /> son. Arthur Brothers offered proteat on the grounds that the low bidder did not submit <br /> the names �of sub-contractors. City Attorney Currie ruled that the Code did not require <br /> this condition in construction of streets, highways and bridges and therefore Arthur Bros. <br /> protest was out of order. Councilman Britschgi moved that contract be awarded to Clifford <br /> and Bodenhamer, seconded by Councilman Granger and carried. <br /> COUNCILMAN STOUT CON�MENTED UPON CONDITIONS AT CITY DUMPS. Recently he observed considerable <br /> „�,, black smoke and upon investigating found that old junk cars were being burned. He also <br /> � <br /> observed papers and refuse scattered along Harbor Boulevard which appeared very unsight- <br /> ly and quite evident to visitors enroute to the Port. Councilman Stout suggested the <br /> possibility of eliminating old junkies from the dumps, also the possible building of a <br /> fence along Harbor Boulevard to alleviate the paper and ref'use blowing onto the Boulevard. <br /> Discussion followed during which it appeared that scrap and junk cars could not be elimi- <br /> nated unle�ss the Council definitely so specified. Mayor Herkner appointed Councilman <br /> Stout and Councilman Britschgi as a committee to investigate conditions and brin� back <br /> a report to the Council. <br /> MID-PEitINSULA CQN�NItTNITY F'AIR, SAN CARLOS REQUEST PERMISSION TO ERECT SIX BANNERS ON BROADWAY <br /> advertising the fair for July 21 to 25, City Manager and City Attorney will determine <br /> type and material displayed an.d if satisfactory, per�mission will be granted subject to <br /> satisfactory insurance on motion of Councilman Britschgi, seconded by Councilman Stout <br /> � <br /> and carried. <br /> � <br /> MAYOR HERKNER EXPRESSED APPRECIATION AND THA,�TKS TO COUNCILMAN ROYER AND GRA,n1GER FOR THEIR EF- <br /> FORTS IN BEHALF OF TI�E FOURTH-OF-JULY PARADE; to the POLICE DEPARTNiENT who again handl- <br /> ed traffic and crowds without any injury; to the FIRE DEPARTIV�NT for their excellent <br /> ,�"" handling of all situations arising; to DOYLE CHESTER and his department for the prompt <br /> �r and complete �ob of cleaning streets. Ma.yor Herkner also comin�ented on the wonderful work <br /> performed by the POLICE RESERVES who donated many hours of their time in assistin� the <br /> department all through the celebration. <br /> RESOLUTION N0. 1722, ABATEMENT OF DAVIES BUILllL�TG AT 1104 JEFFERSON AVENUE.
