Motion seconded by Councilman _Spillers and carried. Report to be <br /> given at the Novembar 8th meeting. City Engineer Jain suggested that N�r. Cataldo contact <br /> the State Highway Department immediately in order that he may secure their permission to <br /> make the driveway entrance� where ever same will be located. <br /> SEQIIOIA HIGH SCHOQL PARKING CONIMITTEE REPORT. Mr. Kauffman of the Sequoia High School stated <br /> that the Student Committee had met twice with the Traffic Commission and had come up <br /> with some recommendations and a request for funds to the High Sehool Trustees. They will <br /> � <br /> prepare and turn out a report in the near future. <br /> CITY ENGZNEER ON PROPOSED RESURFACING BEECH STREET. City Engineer Jain advised that he had <br /> �� � <br /> checked over the proposed improvement and had found that there were no concrete gutters <br /> existing and that much of the present curb is depressed and in such condition that it <br /> would be necessary to reconstruct it for proper drainage. It is his opinion that not <br /> less that the minimum requirementa be allowed than that required of any other street in <br /> this area. It would require considerable testing and excavating throughout the area to <br /> determine whether the existing rock base would be satisfactory for permanent pavin�. <br /> There are several such unimproved streets in triis area and it is Mr. Jaints opinion they <br /> should all: be treated equally. In his final recommendation, Mr. Jain does not approve <br /> the placing of permanent paving over the present subgrade without concrete gutters, <br /> replacement of base rock, reconstruction of curb and sidewalk, and storm drainage across <br /> intersecting streets where necessary. <br /> � COUNCILMAN ROYER ENTERED MEETING AT 8:40. <br /> � Couneilman Britschgi stated that he was of the opinion that the street had never been ac- <br /> cepted by the City and had never been responsible for maintenance of same. He did not see <br /> any reason wh� the people on the street might not be allowed to improve same at their own <br /> � own expense. Councilman Granger stated that the atreets were put in many years ago with <br /> � the thought that the City would not accept the maintenance. Mr. Vl�illard Coburn stated <br /> the area was rocked many years ago and had been maintained from time to time by the City. <br /> TvIr. Richard Thompson also addressed the Council and called attention to the dust condi- <br /> tion and their desire to oil and screen to keep the dust down. City Engineer Jain stated <br /> that permanent improvements would cost from �8.00 to �12.00 per front foot. The present <br /> rock base would be saved wherever possible.
