Councilman Royer moved that <br /> Mr. Jain be authorized to get surveys and decide what part of property is wanted, <br /> seconded by Councilman. Jonea and carried. <br /> LETTER FRf�M DIRECTOR OF DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WQRK3, CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCD regarding <br /> possible acquisition or use of a part of' the Hassler se�rer located on Edge�ood Road <br /> and Cordilleras Road to City Engineer Jain �ras read by Cit� Clerk Dodge. Councilman <br /> Herkner moved the matter be held over for study and to work out possible details. <br /> Motion seconded by Councilman Royer and carried. City Enginesr Jain will acknowledge <br /> receipt of letter and indicate Council+ s intereat in the ma.tter. <br /> COUNCILWOMAN TINNEY REQUESTED that the City Attorney bring back a report on t he Stafford Park <br /> matter, in connection with recommendation recently made by the Library Board and the <br /> � <br /> Council Library Committee. <br /> COUNCILMAN JQNE3 REPORTED ON 2�iE PLANNING COMMI3SION�S MEETING at which t im�e the porposed <br /> +�, < <br /> des3gnated park and school areas in future subdivisions, was diseussed. It rras dis- <br /> closed that the School District had been receiving eopies of the Planning Commission� s <br /> minutes covering new subdivisions. <br /> COUNCILMAN JONES DISCUSSED the practice of granting the fif'th step and the manner in which it <br /> is proposed by the department heads and approved b� the Personnel Board. Department <br /> heads, ho�rever, do not qualify under the so-called fifth step but have been placed on <br /> a flat salary basis. The step plan was set up as a guide, but the deeision is entirely <br /> up to the Council. This matter will be discussed further at budget time. <br /> COUNCILMAN BRIT5CHGI BR�UQiT IIP CIVILIAN DEFENSE FOR DISCUSSIaN, it being l�is opinion that <br /> - the City should seek council. as to where to go and what to do. Mayor Granger called <br /> attention to the fact that the program had been carried out as covered by t he present <br /> � <br /> ordinanee, however, he agresd that something should be done at once to brin� this <br /> �` matter into line. Administrative Asaistant Wendling reported on the recent activities <br /> which covered the communications program, and Chief Lodi stated his opinion that a full <br /> time man should be appointed to undertake a� program consistent with the present needs. <br /> �"" The general consenus of opinion was that a part or ftii.11 time man be appointed and it <br /> � was agreed that the matter would be studied at budget �ime. <br /> MR. HIRAM STOUT, chairman of the Park and Recreation Commission, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL <br /> relative to the proposed building for Boy and Girl Scouts and suggesting the possibility <br /> of a location ad�acent to the t�rmory for the erection of the building. Mr. Stout stated <br /> that this was of a preliminary nature and that the Commission would make a recommendation <br /> later on. Mr. Stout had prepared a sketch of the proposed Youth Center, submitting two <br /> different plans for consideration.
