7.3.B. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
April 28, 2014
SUBJECT
Final Acceptance - 2012-2013 Brewster Avenue Overlay Project
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, accept the 2012-2013 Brewster Avenue Overlay Project, and authorize the
release of bonds according to city procedures.
BACKGROUND
On November 18, 2013, Council awarded the construction contract for the 2012-2013
Brewster Avenue Overlay Project to G. Bortolotto & Company, Inc. of San Carlos,
California for a price of $466,471.39. The project scope included repairing sections of
deteriorated roadway pavement, installing a new layer of asphalt concrete pavement,
installing curb ramps, reinstalling roadway striping, and other associated work on
Brewster Avenue between Alameda de las Pulgas and Fulton Street.
The project is part of the city's Roadway Management Program to address on-going
pavement repair and replacement needs. Brewster Avenue was prioritized for
pavement resurfacing based on the city's overall pavement condition assessment and
pavement preservation objectives.
ANALYSIS
Project construction commenced in January 2014 and concluded in March 2014. The
project construction was performed and completed in accordance with the project plans
and specifications. Minor scope changes and final quantity adjustments to the contract
work were issued in a Contract Change Order, resulting in a net cost credit of
($10,912.14). The final contract amount is $455,559.25 which is approximately 2%
lower than the original contract amount.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project and/or authorize the release of bonds at
this time which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and
the public contracting code.
