Partial Street Closure, Maple Street between Middlefield Road and Main Street, as part of <br /> the Jefferson Avenue Underpass Detour Plan. <br /> '- <br /> REPORT: Senior Civil Engineer Lee, December 16,1996 <br /> Engineering Manager Patterson presented the staff report and described the alternatives. <br /> Manager Patterson displayed an overhead showing the designs, and said staff <br /> recommended Alternative C, as it was the most cost effective, saved more parking spaces <br /> than the other designs, created less of a back-up to the railroad tracks, and resolved some <br /> of the long standing complaints about that intersection. Manager Patterson said <br /> Alternative C could be done quickly and reviewed for safety and operation before <br /> Jefferson was closed. He added that CaiTrain would monitor the situation and would have <br /> the opportunity to request modifications, as CalTrain's first and primary concern is safety. <br /> In response to Council questions, Manager Patterson advised that the businesses in the <br /> area supported Alternative C, and although it is being proposed as a temporary solution, if <br /> it is successful, this configuration could become pennanent. <br /> Councilman Ruskin, member of the Council Streets Committee, thanked staff for a very <br /> practical, imaginative and cost effective design. <br /> MIS: LEIPZIGIHOWARD TO APPROVE PARTIAL CLOSURE OF MAPLE STREET, AND <br /> APPROVE ALTERNATIVE C. <br /> - <br /> CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE. <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-312 <br /> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> 9.
