CONSENT CALENDAR CONTINUED - ITEMS REMOVED FOR CONSIDERATION
AND TAKEN OUT OF ORDER AT THIS TIME.
E. New City Hall Project Task Orders:
REPORT: Project Engineer Sharon Jones, December 16,1996
In response to questions from Councilman Leipzig regarding the possibility of future
revisions as mentioned in the subject Report, Engineering Manager Patterson explained
that there might be a need for future design changes due to the reorganization in the
Community Development Department and the impact it might have on the public counters;
and, currently there are no landscaping designs for the base of the flag pole and memorial
monuments. Manager Patterson said there have been offers from the private sector to pay
for those designs as well as other landscaping items, but no decision has been made. He
added that at this time there is no budget for the memorial at the base of the flag pole.
Councilman Claire advised he and several friends wished to donate to memorials in the
name of their family members. Councilman Claire said there were twelve young men
from Redwood City who were killed in Viet Nam including his brother and Charlotte
Callas' son, and all their names needed to be added to the existing memorial. Councilman
Claire said he will donate money in support of that effort.
In response to questions from Councilman Ruskin regarding the expenditure of
contingency funds, Engineering Manager Patterson explained that all design changes
and expenditure of contingency funds must be brought to the Council for approval as the
consultants are under contract to the City. He advised that monies are available in the
contingency fund (as part of the already approved budget) to pay for these task order
changes and possible future changes as well. Manager Paterson said there are two
contingency funds: One is included in the $8.5 million budget (construction contingency
fund), and the other one is the City's contingency fund to be used to fund design or
landscaping changes, or other minor changes approved by Council. He advised that
approval of the proposed task orders will not increase the budget for the New City Hall.
REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTE BOOK NO. 55 DECEMBER 16, 1996
MINUTES PAGE 4
Page No. 078
