7.3.A. - Page 5
ATTMu-lIVItIN I 1
2. The City Council of the City of Redwood City hereby approves the City
Sidewalk Café Pilot Program for a six month trial period as follows:
A. Not more than three Sidewalk Café Permits may be issued on a
temporary basis in those locations deemed appropriate by the City Manager/designee,
authorizing applicants to extend the sidewalk to replace one or more parking spaces to
accommodate the proposed sidewalk café. In determining whether a location is
appropriate, safety for patrons, pedestrians and traffic, width of adjacent street, availability
of other nearby parking and aesthetics of the proposal shall be considered. Not more than
a total of six parking spaces may be removed for this pilot program.
B. Parking spaces utilized for a sidewalk café must be directly in front
of the applicant's restaurant.
C. Installations of sidewalk cafes in parking spaces shall conform to the
Sidewalk Café Guidelines (attached hereto as Exhibit A) except to the extent necessary
to specifically design the installation for the parking space area, and shall be designed
and installed only as approved by the City and at the expense of the Permittee.
D. Permits for sidewalk cafes issued pursuant to this Pilot Program may
authorize other exceptions to the Sidewalk Café Guidelines only as necessary and
appropriate for the new expanded area.
E. Except as modified herein, such permits shall be subject to the same
fees, guidelines, regulations and conditions of approval as set forth in Chapter 33A for
Sidewalk Café Permits, provided, however, the duration of these permits shall not
exceed a total of six (6) months and shall not be deemed to automatically renew beyond
such six (6) month period.
3. At the end of six months, staff shall evaluate the pilot program and
recommend to the City Council whether this program should be continued, expanded or
terminated and whether issued permits should be extended or terminated.
ATTY/RESO.2975/CC SIDEWALK CAFE PILOT PROGRAM
REV: 05-05-14 JS
