7.1.A. - Page 1 <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> May 12, 2014 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Peninsula Celebration Association's 76th Annual Fourth of July Celebration <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, approve and authorize the Chief of Police to execute a letter permit for the <br /> Fourth of July Celebration sponsored by the Peninsula Celebration Association and the <br /> Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department; and, approve <br /> the temporary suspension of of parking meter rates on July 4, 2014 in the Downtown <br /> area. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The Peninsula Celebration Association (PCA), in partnership with the Redwood City <br /> Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, has requested permission to <br /> conduct the annual Fourth of July Celebration. The annual "Fun Run" will be conducted <br /> along the parade route from 8:45 am to 9:45 am. The traditional parade will commence <br /> at 10:00 am and last until approximately 12:30 pm. The arts & crafts fair and festival will <br /> be held from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Parks, Recreation and Community Services will <br /> sponsor live musical entertainment in Court House Square from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm. <br /> A fireworks display will be held at the Port of Redwood City from 9:30 pm until <br /> approximately 9:50 pm. <br /> On July 4th, the parade route and line-up area will be reserved from 6:00 am until 2:00 <br /> pm. The arts and crafts fair and festival area will be reserved at 3:00 pm on Thursday <br /> July 3rd through 8:00 pm on Friday July 4th. Court House Square will be reserved from <br /> 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. <br /> The parade will be conducted in the areas detailed on the attached map provided by the <br /> PCA in their letter dated April 10, 2014. Parade staging areas require road closures <br /> throughout the Centennial Neighborhood. The festival will be conducted on Middlefield <br /> from Broadway to Marshall, Hamilton from Marshall to Middlefield, Jefferson from <br /> Marshall to the entrance to the Jefferson parking structure, and Broadway between <br /> Main Street and Winslow. Live musical entertainment will take place within Court House <br /> Square. Minor alterations to the parade route and festival areas may be required to <br /> facilitate these events. Should alterations be required, any change to the parade route <br /> and festival area locations will be determined under the supervision and approval of the <br /> Police Chief or his designee. <br /> Page 1 of 3 <br />
