7.2.A. - Page 1 <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> June 23, 2014 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance-Sewer Force Main Replacement Project (From P.S. # 1 to M.H.) <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, accept the Sewer Force Main Replacement Project (From P.S. # 1 to M.H.) <br /> and authorize the release of retention according to City procedures. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> On December 9, 2013, Council awarded the construction contract for the Sewer Force <br /> Main Replacement Project (From P.S. # 1 to M.H.) to K.J. Woods Construction, Inc. of <br /> San Francisco, California for a price of $268,000.00. The project scope included <br /> installation of new 1,242 lineal feet of 10-inch high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, <br /> air release valves assembly, pavement restoration, micro surfacing and pavement <br /> delineation of the affected roadway areas, replacement of existing traffic loop detectors <br /> and other associated work. This project is located along Marine Parkway from Sewer <br /> Pump Station No.1 to the existing sanitary sewer manhole. The project restored the <br /> reliability and improved the overall functionality of the sewer collection system in <br /> Redwood Shores Area. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> Project construction commenced in February 2014 and concluded in May 2014. The <br /> project construction was performed and completed in accordance with the project plans <br /> and specifications. Minor scope changes and final quantity adjustments to the contract <br /> work were issued resulting in change orders totaling $3,048.75. The final contract <br /> amount is $271,048.75 which is approximately 1.14% higher than the original contract <br /> amount. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not to accept the project and/or authorize the release of bonds at <br /> this time which would be contrary to the terms of the contract, prior Council action, and <br /> the public contracting code. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Sufficient funding for the construction of this project was previously approved and <br /> appropriated as Sewer Fund Capital Projects — Pump Station # 1 Force Main <br /> Replacement. <br />
