MSR:yc:2/10/78 R <br /> stwoo <br /> ORIGINAL <br /> R E S O L U T I O N N O. 7998 <br /> FEB 13 1978 <br /> RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING AND COMMENDING THE CREATION <br /> OF A DOWNTOWN MURAL IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> WHEREAS, a beautiful and creative addition has been made to <br /> the Downtown area of this City by the creation of a mural by artist <br /> Jose Antonio Burciaga and muralist Gilberto Romero Rodriguez <br /> depicting regional dances of Mexico; and <br /> WHEREAS, this mural which is located on the wall of a building <br /> adjacent to the Great Western Savings and Loan parking lot on Broadway <br /> and faces that parking lot, is the largest in San Mateo County. <br /> It has been painted with special mural paints (politec) from Mexico <br /> because of their brilliance and durability and has been drawn with <br /> geometric dimensional perspective lines so that the mural can be <br /> appreciated from any perspective; and <br /> WHEREAS, the mural was sponsored by the Multicultural Arts <br /> Council with a grant from the California Arts Council with matching <br /> grants from the San Mateo Foundation and Canada College; and <br /> WHEREAS, this project has been a truly cooperative community <br /> effort as evidenced by the enthusiastic support and the contributions <br /> of the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce and the Redwood City Downtown <br /> Merchants Association; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> AS FOLLOWS: <br /> This Council hereby expresses its deep gratitude for the <br /> creation of this beautiful and vivid addition to the Downtown area <br /> of Redwood City, commends Jose Antonio Burciaga and Gilberto Romero <br /> Rodriguez for their considerable impressive artistic efforts and <br /> expresses its appreciation to all those individuals and organizations <br /> who contributed their time and money to this project which will <br /> further enhance community pride in Redwood City. <br /> 7 998 <br />
