MSR:yc:2/10/78 R stwoo ORIGINAL R E S O L U T I O N N O. 7998 FEB 13 1978 RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING AND COMMENDING THE CREATION OF A DOWNTOWN MURAL IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY WHEREAS, a beautiful and creative addition has been made to the Downtown area of this City by the creation of a mural by artist Jose Antonio Burciaga and muralist Gilberto Romero Rodriguez depicting regional dances of Mexico; and WHEREAS, this mural which is located on the wall of a building adjacent to the Great Western Savings and Loan parking lot on Broadway and faces that parking lot, is the largest in San Mateo County. It has been painted with special mural paints (politec) from Mexico because of their brilliance and durability and has been drawn with geometric dimensional perspective lines so that the mural can be appreciated from any perspective; and WHEREAS, the mural was sponsored by the Multicultural Arts Council with a grant from the California Arts Council with matching grants from the San Mateo Foundation and Canada College; and WHEREAS, this project has been a truly cooperative community effort as evidenced by the enthusiastic support and the contributions of the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce and the Redwood City Downtown Merchants Association; NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: This Council hereby expresses its deep gratitude for the creation of this beautiful and vivid addition to the Downtown area of Redwood City, commends Jose Antonio Burciaga and Gilberto Romero Rodriguez for their considerable impressive artistic efforts and expresses its appreciation to all those individuals and organizations who contributed their time and money to this project which will further enhance community pride in Redwood City. 7 998
