<br /> AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE ERECTION, ALTERING AND MAIN-
<br /> TAINING OF ALL SIGNS; PROVIDING FOR ISSUANCE OF PERMITS
<br /> AND THE FIXING OF FEES THEREFOR; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR
<br /> THE VIOLATION THEREOF; AND REPEALING ORDINANCES NOS. 272,
<br /> 309, 420, 488 AND 908, AND SECTION 21 OF ORDINANCE NO. 593
<br /> WI�REAS, unless properly regulated, signs can be a hazard
<br /> to the community, particularly with regard to fire protection of
<br /> certain buildings and structures and to the vision of those in
<br /> vehicular traffic; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the Counc il of the City of Redwood City has found
<br /> that unless restrictive and adequate sign legislation is adopted,
<br /> the safety and welfare of the citizens and residents may be
<br /> seriously affected to the detriment of the entire community;
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE;
<br /> THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
<br /> ARTICLE 1
<br /> TITLE, PURPOSE AND DEFINITIONS
<br /> Section 1.1 This ordinance may be cited as the "Redwood
<br /> C ity S ign Ordinance."
<br /> Section 1.2 The purpose of this ordinance is to adopt a
<br /> uniform sign regulation for the City of Redwood City, and its
<br /> provisions shall be held to be the minimum requirements adopted
<br /> for the protection of the public health, safety and welfare in
<br /> the installation, erection, location, alteration, replacing,
<br /> improving, suspending and maintenance of all signs.
<br /> Section 1.3 Unless the provisions or context otherwise
<br /> require, the definitions set forth in this article shal.l govern
<br /> the construction of this ordinance .
