The results of the bidding process established the cost at $1.25 million over the <br />final estimate. Director Patterson stated that using information from the architect, Fisher Friedman, <br />and the construction management company, Rudolph and Sletten, staff was able to come up with <br />$800,000 worth of cuts by redesigning and using different materials, but obviously more cuts were <br />needed. Some of the bids were right on target, others were significantly over, and some bid <br />packages were not bid upon by anyone. Director Patterson advised that this was a very busy time <br />for contractors who have lots of work and this project is considered quite small, the building design <br />was very complex, and the innovative private industry-style bidding process might have kept some <br />bidders away. Staff is still investigating and evaluating why the bids were so much higher than <br />expected.
