Council Member Janet Steinfeld REDWOOD CITY, CA REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 17, 1994 CALL TO ORDER - 7:34 P.M., Mayor Buchan presiding ROLL CALL Council Members present: Gasparini, Greenalch, La Berge, Sanfilipo, Steinfeld, and Mayor Buchan Council Members absent: Claire Officials and staff present: Everett, Schricker, Jorgenson and Ponty, Irizarry, Hildebrand, Granucci, Harper, Church, Luck, Jones-Thomas PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Councilwoman La Berge INVOCATION - Reverend James Lockwood-Stewart, First United Methodist Church, offered prayers for the victims of the Northridge earthquake, and honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s memory and his work for equality and justice. Mayor Buchan also paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with personal remembrances of a society badly needing change, the journey towards civil rights that Dr. King began, and the long way we have to go to fulfill his dream. 1. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS A. Joe Steinfeld, Main Street merchant, read a letter from Councilwoman Steinfeld addressed to State Senator Campbell and Assemblyman Sher asking them to give serious consideration to introducing a School Children's Safety Bill of Rights, and gave Council photographs of traffic dangers affecting school children. Mr. Steinfeld asked everyone to report any unsafe measures they observed around schools or school buses by calling 369-COPS and he would report it to the authorities. B.
