ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Joan Jordan, Jefferson Avenue, Redwood City, member of the Redwood City
Downtown Association, described the work she, Pat Hoffman, Barbara
Britschgi and a score of other downtown merchants had done for this
year's Sunflower Festival, and the unfortunate animosity between some of
the associations's members. Mrs. Jordan distributed a report on the
Festival's expenses and sponsors, and the work of the Sunflower Art and
Wine Festival Committee, and described the reasons a separate account was
established for the Festival apart from the Association as a whole. Mrs.
Jordan advised that it takes years to build the reputation of a Festival
and described the growing success each year of the Sunflower Festival.
Mrs. Jordan advised Council that she had been sent a registered letter
asking that she and Pat Hoffman appear before the Executive Board of the
Association to explain their use of funds for the Sunflower Festival, and
advised they both resented the implication that there was anything wrong
with their use of funds to finance the Sunflower Festival, and that they
had no authorization to set up a separate account for the Festival. Mrs.
Jordan provided background on financing the Festival, the transition to
new officers, and advised all accounts had been transferred to the new
Treasurer, John Hollister as planned, and reminded Council of its promise
to support this year's and next year's Sunflower Festival. Mrs. Jordan
described the benefits of using this year's profits for next year's
Regular Meeting Minutes
September 21, 1992
Page 1 MINUTE BOOK NO. 51
Page No. 195
.. .- T _.
