<br />DES:df~ 3/26/93 (009/33) <br /> <br />a RIG I N A L <br /> <br />3/23/93 <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />11951 <br /> <br />---------- <br /> <br />RESOLUTION URGING RETENTION OF NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE <br />FACILITIES IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the National Weather Service has been providing <br /> <br />accurate weather forecasts for the Bay Area since the summer of <br />1968 from its Redwood City location; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the National Weather Service has announced a plan <br /> <br />to relocate the Redwood City weather center to the Monterey Bay <br /> <br />area together with certain other installations; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed relocation would adversely affect the <br />accuracy of Bay Area forecasts contrary to good meterological <br /> <br />practices; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the relocation would remove these vital facilities <br /> <br />from its center of academic, scientific and other professional <br /> <br />support; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Redwood <br /> <br />City has <br /> <br />been known <br /> <br />as <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />City with <br /> <br />"Climate Best by Government Test" since 1925, and takes great <br />pride in the recognition this slogan has given the City and in <br /> <br />the unique relationship that has long been established between <br /> <br />the National Weather Service and Redwood City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this Council urges that this excellent scientific <br /> <br />asset to the community remain at its present location; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />This Council opposes the proposed move of the National <br />
