<br />ORIGINAL <br />July 8, 1991 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />11557 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION HONORING MICHAEL W. GIBBONS FOR HIS ACTIONS DURING DESERT <br />SHIELD AND DESERT STORM, AND HIS COMMITMENT TO HIS COUNTRY AND THE CAUSE <br />OF FREEDOM <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Michael W. Gibbons, a lifelong resident of Redwood City, <br />was born here on October 4, 1963, and graduated from Selby Lane, St. <br />Pius and Woodside High Schools; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Michael W. Gibbons joined the United States Air Force <br />Reserves in September of 1986 and was hired as a landscape gardener by <br />the City of Redwood City in June 1987; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Gibbons is a member of the 940th Security <br />Police Unit stationed at Mather Air Force Base who spent two tours of <br />duty in the Persian Gulf: first, during Operation Desert Shield in <br />August and September 1990, and then during Operation Desert Storm from <br />February to May 1991; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Mike Gibbons has earned the National Defense Ribbon and <br />the Southwest Asia Service Medal while serving our country and <br />providing security for aircraft and personnel in Saudia Arabia, the <br />United Arab Emirates and Egypt; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Michael W. Gibbons is a valuable and popular employee of <br />the City of Redwood City who willingly answered his nation's call to <br />arms to defend freedom half a world away; and who is now safely back <br />with his family, friends and co-workers who are very, very glad to have <br />him home; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGI LA BERGE, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, do hereby express our sincere <br />gratitude to MICHAEL W. GIBBONS for his sense of duty and commitment to <br />his country, and his actions in the Persian Gulf; and officially <br />welcome Mike back home to a city that is very proud of him. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />.- 1r <br />
