REDWOOD MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING CITY RECREATION AND PARK COMMISSION CITY HALL TUESDAY, APRIL 12, 1938 7:30 P.M. Present: City Manager Chas.. L. Dimmitt, Chairman Wayne Millington, Mrs. L. A. McAtee, James P. Hagan, K. W. Van Gundy, Andrew Spinas, Recreation Director Morton, Mr. De Armand, Roger Walsh, Henry Beeger" and Mildred Hoenck. \....,...-i Absent: Donald Bogie, who was reported to be in Los Angeles. - The meeting-was called to order by Chairman Millington. The minutes of the previous meeting-were read and upon motion made, seconded, and carried, were approved as corrected. Chairman Millington asked to be excused as he found it necessary to attend another meeting at Burlingame. It was brought to the attention of the group that a Vice-Chairman had not been elected. Chairman Millington declared the nominations open. Mr. Spinas nominated Mr. Hagan; Mr. Van Gundy seconded the nomination; and Mr. Hagan was unanimously elected. Mr. Hagan took the Chair, and called upon Mr. Henry Beeger to speak to the group on the subject of the proposed rifle range for Redwood City. Two possible sites were mentioned--one at the end of Whipple Road--and the other at the Water Works. Mr. Beeger expressed his opinion that i't would be advisable just to use small rifles if-the rifle range were decided upon. Also he stated that there should be supervision at the range whenever there is any shooting being done. He mentioned the names of_two other men be- sides himself who he felt sure would be glad to act as instructors in rifle shooting, namely Carl Stoner" Jr., and Mr. . He felt certain that the rifle range would win the approval of the citizens of Redwood City, and also stated that it would be a very inexpensive activity. Mr. Spinas moved that the Commission go on record as being in favor of a rifle range for Redwood City. Mr. Van Gundy seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. ,,-,' Acting-Chairman Hagan thanked Mr. Beeger for attending the meeting and for presenting to the group his views 'regarding the proposed rifle range. Director Morton announced that it was just twenty-two years ago the night of the meeting that Councilman George McNulty was elected to the City Council, and that he had been amember of - --.. ,-- - "-- ,.
