',,' ',' '- <br />-- " " '" - ".,.., -,' '... ,- -, " -" "" <br /> <br />REDWOOD CITY RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />Meeting, ~nuary 8, 1964 <br /> <br />PRESENT: <br /> <br />James Knecht, Louise Tarnell, Robert Whitmore, Maurice Schutz, <br />Catherine Brenna, Alfred Morton, Pasco Balzarini, William <br />Shewry and Don Dimitratos.' , <br /> <br />Meeting was called to order by James Knecht at 8:00 p.m. <br /> <br />MSC by Commissioners Catherine Brennan and Robert Whitmore that a letter <br />be written to the City Council requesting them to allocate the $22,500.00 <br />set aside for a building at the Baird property to the development and <br />construction of all outdoor facilities which were planned for this area <br />including the parking lot. <br /> <br />MSC by Commissioners Louise Tornell and Robert Whitmore to request the <br />City Manager for authorization to remove all gum trees at the Baird <br />property which will interfere with the development of the outdoor <br />facilities. This project will be done under the direction of the Park <br />Superintendent and Recreation Director. <br /> <br />MSC by Commissioners Robert Whitmore and Louise Tornell that a letter be <br />. sent to the City Manager requesting the definite boundary lines of the <br />Baird property which may be utilized by the Recreation Department for <br />the development of the proposed outdoor facilities. <br /> <br />MSC by Commissioners Maury Schurz and Louise Tornell that a letter be <br />sent to the City C unci 1 requesting them to call for bids for catering <br />service at Hawes Park during the 1964 softball season. <br /> <br />A report on the Sea Scouts and Mariners re-location at the Marina was <br />reported as progress. <br /> <br />A request from the City Council to consider the re-naming of Community <br />Park to J. F. Kennedy Park was discussed. <br /> <br />MSC by Commissioners Robert Whitmore and Louise Tornell that the name <br />of Community Park remain the same and consideration should be given to <br />the naming of any ndw park in the future to J. F. Kennedy Park. <br /> <br />A report on the fencing of Mezes, Carson Street Hetch Hetchy and West- <br />wood Playground was made. Recreation Director Alfred Morton stated that <br />the bids have been let to the Cyclone Fence Company and as soon as the <br />contract is signed the fences will be erected. A report will be made <br />at the next vommission meeting. <br /> <br />Park Superintendent Pasco Balzarini reported that the work at Fleishman <br />Playground is now underway and should be completed at the target date. <br /> <br />A report by Commissioner Robert Whitmore regarding the extension of <br />Myrtle Street was made. He stated that the Fire Department was not in- <br />terested at this 'time since they planned to have a new station in the <br />Roosevelt Avenue area in the vicinity of Community Park.
