<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />REDWOOD PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />October 4, 1967 7:30 p.m. <br />Community Activities Bldg. <br />1400 Roosevelt Ave. <br /> <br />The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman Robert Whit- <br />more at 7:30 p.m. on October 4, 1967. <br /> <br />ONROLL CALL, the following Commissioners were noted present: <br />Chairman Whitmore, Dixon Arnett, Ann Gooding, James Knecht, Jack <br />Stuart and Jim Williams. <br />Absent: Doris Thompson - vacation. <br />Also present: Director of Recreation, Alfred Morton; Supt. of <br />Parks, Pasco Balzarini: Recreation Supervisor, Bill Paulson: and <br />Lee Massman, stenographer. <br /> <br />MINUTES of the meeting of September 6, 1967, were approved as <br />corrected, the correction being that the City Manager had arr- <br />ived at 7:45 p.m. and not 8:45 as indicated. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE: <br />1. From City Manager Howard Ullrich, re land usage at Redwood <br />Shores. <br /> <br />Commissioner Stuart suggested Park & Recreation Commission <br />arrange for representation at weekly Planning Commission meet- <br /> <br />. <br />lngs. <br /> <br />Secretary Thompson was asked to request, through the City Mana- <br />ger, that Park & Recreation Commissioners be sent minutes and <br />agendas of Planning Commission meetings. (10-18-67) <br /> <br />2. Monthly report - Park Department 4nd copy of invitation to <br />Mayor's IIget-together" at Calif. League of Cities Conference on <br />Oct. 17,1967 at St. Francis Hotel. <br /> <br />PERSON APPEARANCE: Mrs. Nita Spangler <br />Mrs. Spangler, member of the Citizens' Committee for the Park <br />. and Recreation Survey-Winan's Report, spoke to several items on <br />the "BOND ISSUE - PRIORITIES" report which was included in the <br />minutes of Sept. 6th. #19 - uExpansion of Union Cemetery". Mrs. <br />Spangler said - that Union Cemetery with its 6 acres of prime <br />land is a special land because it is a pioneer cemetery and a <br />State Historical Landmark and suggested before anything was <br />done to it that the San Mateo County Historical Association <br />be asked to make a study of old cemeteries in other cities and <br />what had been done with them; that ideas also be obtained from <br />the University of California landscape department; that City <br />of Ventura had taken cemetery in its town and taken out the <br />markers and in their place had put 'in markers of the level to <br />the ground type.
