MINUTES REDWOOD PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION October 4, 1967 7:30 p.m. Community Activities Bldg. 1400 Roosevelt Ave. The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman Robert Whit- more at 7:30 p.m. on October 4, 1967. ONROLL CALL, the following Commissioners were noted present: Chairman Whitmore, Dixon Arnett, Ann Gooding, James Knecht, Jack Stuart and Jim Williams. Absent: Doris Thompson - vacation. Also present: Director of Recreation, Alfred Morton; Supt. of Parks, Pasco Balzarini: Recreation Supervisor, Bill Paulson: and Lee Massman, stenographer. MINUTES of the meeting of September 6, 1967, were approved as corrected, the correction being that the City Manager had arr- ived at 7:45 p.m. and not 8:45 as indicated. CORRESPONDENCE: 1. From City Manager Howard Ullrich, re land usage at Redwood Shores. Commissioner Stuart suggested Park & Recreation Commission arrange for representation at weekly Planning Commission meet- . lngs. Secretary Thompson was asked to request, through the City Mana- ger, that Park & Recreation Commissioners be sent minutes and agendas of Planning Commission meetings. (10-18-67) 2. Monthly report - Park Department 4nd copy of invitation to Mayor's IIget-together" at Calif. League of Cities Conference on Oct. 17,1967 at St. Francis Hotel. PERSON APPEARANCE: Mrs. Nita Spangler Mrs. Spangler, member of the Citizens' Committee for the Park . and Recreation Survey-Winan's Report, spoke to several items on the "BOND ISSUE - PRIORITIES" report which was included in the minutes of Sept. 6th. #19 - uExpansion of Union Cemetery". Mrs. Spangler said - that Union Cemetery with its 6 acres of prime land is a special land because it is a pioneer cemetery and a State Historical Landmark and suggested before anything was done to it that the San Mateo County Historical Association be asked to make a study of old cemeteries in other cities and what had been done with them; that ideas also be obtained from the University of California landscape department; that City of Ventura had taken cemetery in its town and taken out the markers and in their place had put 'in markers of the level to the ground type.
