<br />. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />. <br />~ . <br /> <br />I . <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />Minutes of Wednesday, October 23, 1991 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Chairperson Hordness, <br />Commissioners Davis, Howard, <br />Mortensen, Slusser, Swope and <br />Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Alfonso & Edelmira Pereda and <br />family, James Stover, Leslie <br />Blondino, Paul Dow, Mike Gibbons, <br />Lori Nielsen <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Superintendent <br />Sally Hartman, Park Supervisor Jim <br />Littlefield, Assistant Center <br />Supervisor Mike Blondino, Management <br />Analyst Ramon Aguilar and Secretary <br />Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order at 7:30pm by Chairperson Ed Nordness in Room 5 of the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the August meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />There was no correspondence. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - APPEAL OF HERITAGE TREE PERMIT AT 1505 BREWSTER AVENUE <br /> <br />Alfonso and Edelm;ra Perada of 1505 Brewster Avenue spoke to the Commission <br />regarding their appeal of a heritage tree permit which was recently denied. <br />Mr. and Mrs. Perada explained that they want to put a pool in their <br />backyard and need to remove a bay laurel tree in order to do so. Park <br />Supervisor Jim Littlefield explained that when the lot at 1505 Brewster <br />Avenue was developed in 1984, the previous owner, Mr. Chow, wanted to <br />subdivide the lot and remove all existing trees on the lot. Twenty <br />neighbors signed a petition requesting that all trees on the lot remain. <br />Mr. Chow was told the subdivision could proceed with the only exception <br />that the trees remain. Supervisor Littlefield explained that when he <br />reviews a heritage tree permit he looks at the condition of the tree, <br />whether the tree is a safety hazard or liability issue. He said that this <br />tree ;s not a danger or nuisance and that the only reason for removing the <br />tree ;s for the installation of a pool. He explained that the department <br />;s not against the installation of pools but is in favor of preserving as <br />many trees in the community as possible, and that the decision was strictly <br /> <br />
