<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 1999 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Morton, Commissioners Joseph <br />(arrived 7:32pm), La Berge, Slusser, Swope, <br />and Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Davis <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Youth Advisory Board Member Eboni Hudson, John <br />Baker, Kit Davey <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Manager Mike Gibbons, Superintendent Corinne Centeno, <br />Manager Julie Hannon, Assistant Recreation Supervisor <br />Adilah Haqq-Smith, Administrative Assistant Denise <br />Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order <br />by Chairperson Vie Morton at 7:30pm in Classroom 1 of the Fair Oaks <br />Community Center, 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the February meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />The Commission received a copy of an e-mail from resident Thomas Clendening <br />regarding his concerns about the painting of the lion statues at Wellesley <br />Crescent Park and asking for a response from the Commission. Manager <br />Gibbons reported he viewed the statues and researched the historical files on <br />the park and could not locate any information on the painting of the statues or <br />record of maintenance. He suggested having staff contact the Sequoia Art <br />Group to obtain their assistance in re-painting the statues. The Commission <br />discussed the matter and directed staff to contact the Sequoia Art Group and to <br />write a letter to Mr. Clendening to advise him of what was being done. <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />Kit Davey of 1539 Granger Way spoke to the Commission about developing a <br />parcel at land located on the Hetch Hetchy right-at-way between Massachusetts <br />and McGarvey Avenues. She is interested in developing this land owned by the <br />San Francisco Water Department into a park which would have benches, natural <br />plantings, and a walking path for people to use. She envisioned obtaining <br />donations from local businesses and service clubs for the necessary equipment <br />and supplies. Ms. Davey said she is very interested in making this project <br />happen and volu nteered to participate in the project. <br /> <br />Manager Gibbons gave some history on other city parks which are located on <br />the Hetch Hetchy right-ot-way, the restrictions ot what is allowed and not allowed <br />in those parks, and the fact that this project would need the approval of the San <br />Francisco Water Department. He advised Ms. Davey that one issue that might <br />come up in developing the land as a park is that neighbors that back up to the <br /> <br />
