<br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 2006 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White <br />(arrived 7:40pm), Commissioners Joseph (arrived 7:35pm), Morton, Swope, <br />and Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Alex and Charlene Wright, Dana Anderson, Jennifer <br />Cutter, Ted Hannig, Dennis Martin, Vincent Truscelli <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover, <br />Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe, Engineer Peter Vortametsanti <br /> <br />Chairperson Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation <br />Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities <br />Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the April meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />A letter from Paul Powers was distributed to the Commissioners and will be <br />discussed under Item 1. <br /> <br />The following items were taken out of order: <br /> <br />ITEM 2 – REVIEW AND COMMENT ON CEQA STATEMENT ON MC <br />GARVEY FIELD LIGHTING PROJECT <br /> <br />Consultants Dana Anderson and Jennifer Cutter of MHA Environmental <br />Consulting spoke about the proposed lighting project at McGarvey Field and <br />stated that they have prepared a negative declaration on the project which <br />needed to be circulated for 20 days. Ms. Cutter noted that only one <br />comment was received from a neighbor on Roosevelt Avenue who objected <br />to the project in general terms. Ms. Cutter said the negative declaration <br />spoke about three concerns: <br />1.)Aesthetics – The current three light poles are 25 feet high and will be <br /> <br />replaced with six poles 70 feet high. Although the new light poles will <br />be higher, the new lights will have drastically reduced light spillage <br />into neighbors’ properties. <br />2.)Noise – No significant increase anticipated <br /> <br /> <br />
