<br />11/14/2006 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14745 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT OF THE <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY TO SUBMIT THE CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL <br />PROTECTION AGENCY, INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD <br />(CIWMB), AN APPLICATION FOR TIRE-DERIVED PRODUCT (TDP) GRANT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the CIWMB is sponsoring a grant program to divert or re-use tires <br /> <br />that are classified as waste in California dump sites; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the CIWMB is making $2.4 million available for the funding of <br /> <br />reduction of waste tire material; and cities may qualify for grants of up to $100,000; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Public Works Department of Redwood City performs sidewalk <br /> <br />repairs to replace damaged sidewalks around street trees using rubberized material; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the use of rubberized material has demonstrated to be successful in <br /> <br />minimizing the need for tree root pruning which in turn enhances the health and stability <br /> <br />of street trees; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Public Works Department desires to apply for the CIWMB grant <br /> <br />which would facilitate the purchase of 10,000 square feet of rubber sidewalk panels and <br /> <br />the re-use of 9,083 used tires; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, if Redwood City is a recipient of said grant, the City's rubber <br /> <br />sidewalk material cost will be reduced by $4.54 per square foot. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of <br /> <br />Redwood City that the Public Works Director is authorized to execute and submit a <br /> <br />grant application to the California Integrated Waste Management Board for a Tire- <br /> <br />ATTY/RESO/RESO.1658 <br />110206 <br /> <br />14745 <br />formerly muff # 505 <br />
