<br />Of(;GJ <br /> <br />APR 2 3 1990 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1 1 27 1 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION HONORING RAY SPANGLER FOR HIS MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING <br />JOURNALISM AND DEDICATION TO OPEN GOVERNMENT AND THE PUBLIC'S RIGHT TO KNOW <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ray Spangler, former Redwood City Tribune publisher and current <br />reporter for the Pacifica Tribune and the Redwood City Almanac, has been <br />dedicated to bringing the light of public scrutiny to bear upon local <br /> <br />government agencies for the last 50 years; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ray Spangler is a nationally, recognized champion of open <br />government who was honored in March by the Northern California Chapter of the <br />Society of Professional Journalists and presented his fourth First Amendment <br /> <br />honor I the James Madison Freedom of Information Award for lifetime achievement; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ray and his wife, Nita, have lived in Redwood City for over forty <br />years and have served Redwood City well by being informed and active <br />participants in community affairs, always encouraging wider citizen awareness <br />of government decision-making; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ray Spangler has conducted his private life and his professional <br /> <br />career with grace, intelligence and perserverance, setting an example of <br /> <br />integrity and accomplishment that is much admired by his colleagues, his <br /> <br />readers and a host of area residents who are proud to know him; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, 1, GEORGI LA BERGE, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, ON <br />BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, DO HEREBY RESOLVE that RAY SPANGLER is to be <br /> <br />commended for his outstanding achievements in the field of journalism, for his <br />dedication to protecting the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment I and <br /> <br />for his distinguished service to our community. <br /> <br />Dated: April 23, 1990 <br /> <br />r <br />
